Kreate Oy and SRV Construction Ltd, which is part of the T2 alliance together with Finavia Corporation, signed a contract on 30 November 2018 for an infrastructure development stage of Terminal 2 of Helsinki Airport, to be implemented based on an alliance model. The transfer to the final implementation stage of the infrastructure will be agreed upon in spring 2019. The extensive T2 Infra project consists of demanding foundation and concrete construction, quarrying and street construction.
“This is one of the most significant and interesting projects in Kreate’s history. I am extremely happy with our highly competent staff, who are at their best when meeting targets with a high number of demanding foundation and concrete construction elements. I could even go as far as to say that the deeper, more special and challenging the hole, the more likely you will find Kreate working in it,” says Tommi Lehtola, Head of Foundation Business Unit at Kreate, with pride.
“Our cooperation with Kreate has been excellent in the Deck and Arena project in Tampere, and we are confident that we have chosen a good partner. The infrastructure works involved in the challenging T2 project were massive, considering the size of the building site and time available for the job. We want to work together with a highly skilled building contractor, and Kreate is one of the best in the business,” says Ossi Inkilä of SRV Construction Ltd, who is the project manager for the T2 alliance.
Versatile infrastructure building in stages in a challenging environment
The T2 Infra job consists not only of concrete structures but also quarrying for the new circular rail connection, the concrete structures for the new parking garage and new terminal, and the taxi and drop-off areas. The project also involves changes to road arrangements in the vicinity of the construction site.
“Our units’ versatility is utilised to the full to create a high-quality end result for our customers. We implement infrastructure construction stage by stage, so that the related construction stages proceed fluently and we keep to the timetable,” says Lehtola.
The job at and near Helsinki Airport is made more challenging by the high number of people, with some 15 million travellers a year going through Kreate’s future building site.
“We pay particular attention to safety and the traveller experience. We hope that people arriving at the airport check the latest situation report by Finavia concerning the work,” says Lehtola.
Kreate’s Foundation Business Unit is in charge of the implementation of T2 Infra. Mr Lehtola has been actively involved in the project, especially in the development stage. He is responsible for ensuring that the project proceeds efficiently and for a high-quality outcome together with Ville Oikari, representing Kreate, who heads the T2 Infra project. Project Manager Tatu Tarkiainen is in charge of building site production.
